There are many ways you can help the Library
and the Friends whether it is your time,
your expertise or your money.
Join the
Friends organization and become actively
involved in the Friends sponsored events by
becoming a Board Member or a Committee
member.
The Board meets once a month at the Accomac
Library on the 4th Wednesday at 10am for
about 2 hours. Committees are Publicity,
Book Sales, Fund Raising and Grant Writing.
These can be for short term and long term
commitments from once a month to once a year.
Volunteer
for Friends events
We always need people to help with our book
sales (come and sort the books and get first
pick) and to help staff our tables whether
at the Library or other community events
where we have a display. Help distribute
posters and flyers for our events to local
Post Offices, stores and restaurants. Time
commitment can be a couple of hours a year.
Help at the
Library
The Library depends on volunteers to
supplement the short handed staff in many
ways. You can help re-shelve books and to
check the book shelves to ensure all the
books are in their proper place. These are
both great opportunities to discover books
you have never read before. Also help is
needed in preparing books before they are
ready to the general public. There is also
a need for people with computer skills to
help with the various files that need to be
updated. Again this can be once a week to
once a month to once a year.
Adopt-a-Book and Help the Library's Collection Grow!
The Eastern Shore Public Library (ESPL) has just launched
an
Adopt-a-Book Program
that offers the perfect way to share your love of books
and reading with your Shore neighbors.
When you adopt a book for the library, your tax-deductible
donation will be acknowledged with a bookplate.
There are many adoption possibilities! Choose from a list
of bestselling authors or from the upcoming bestsellers
list (both available at the library). A non-fiction book
about a subject of your choice or a book about the history
of Virginia's Eastern Shore would make a great
addition to the library's collection. Newly released
DVDs and audio books are always popular, as are
children's and young adult books.
An added perk of adoption is that you can be the first to
read your adopted book ‐ even if there is a waiting list
for it! Jump to the top of the list for your favorite
author's newest release.
Books can be adopted at all four Eastern Shore library
locations in Accomac, Chincoteague, Nassawadox, and Cape
Charles. Books, DVDs, and audiobooks are available for
$25. Children's and Young Adult books are available
for $20.
Adopt-a-Book forms are available at all four ESPL
locations, as well as at
www.espl.org.
